The Hamilton County Middle School Cross-Country Tournament was held Tuesday evening at Chickamauga Dam. Over 200 athletes met to compete on the 2-mile course.
The Signal Mountain girls’ team easily defeated the rest of the competition, winning the race with a score of 35. They were followed by East Hamilton in second place (134) and Sale Creek in third (152). The boys’ race was much tighter, with East Hamilton placing first and CSLA second. Both teams scored 39 points with East Hamilton getting the win due to their 6th place runner. Signal Mountain (82) received the third place trophy, beating CSAS by only one point.
In individual results, Ava Akers of East Hamilton won the girls’ race. She edged out Signal Mountain’s Eliza Albrechtsen after running neck and neck most of the race. The rest of the top ten girls were: Makayla McInnes (CSLA) in 3rd, Lily Vicknair and Hope Jenkins, both from Signal Mountain in 4th and 5th, Jaycee Sparrow (Red Bank) in 6th, Maggie Clemons (Loftis) in 7th, Betti Shriner (CSAS/Normal Park) in 8th, Ansley Hirschel (Hunter) in 9th and Gracieanne Harrison (Sale Creek) in 10th.
In the boys’ race, Caleb Merrill of East Hamilton placed first, remaining undefeated for the season. He was followed by teammate Harper Borski who ran a close race with Aaron Jacob of CSLA. Rounding out the top ten boys were Charlie Johnson (CSAS) in 4th, Charlie Phillips (East Hamilton) in 5th, Chris Jones (CSAS) in 6th, Joshua Dixon and Nick Bruner (both of CSLA) in 7th and 8th, Griffin Richards (Signal Mountain) in 9th, and Reed McDonald (CSLA) in 10th.
