Jeannie Roper Whitfield
Jeannie Roper Whitfield, 63, of Destin, Florida, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at home peacefully in her sleep after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her father: James Alton Roper, mother Madeline Reattoir, stepfather Claude “Butch” Reattoir, and sister Janet Suggs.
She is survived by her husband Kevin Whitfield, of Destin, brothers, James (Jane) Roper of Decatur, Tn., Johnny Roper, and fiancée Desiree Graham of Ringgold, children, Valarie Redman, and fiancé Chris Leffew of Cleveland, Kenneth Zachary Redman of Cleveland, 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Jeannie (whom everyone referred to as “Fabulous”), had an amazing sense of style. She loved shopping and had a unique ability to recognize brands with good quality and value. Jeannie always took pride in her appearance and graced every social setting with elegance and grace and treasured each and every friendship along her journey. She loved the beach, the Dallas Cowboys and had an incredible green thumb. She enjoyed drawing, painting pictures, and decorating / remodeling designs for their condo in Destin. She will be truly missed by many friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory Florist-Valley View Chapel. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. followed by the funeral services at 1 p.m. Per Jeannie’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, those interested are asked to donate to a cancer institution of their choice.
