Tennessee Avenges Loss To South Carolina, But Loses Bru McCoy To Lower Leg Injury

  • Saturday, September 30, 2023

Tennessee avenged last year's jolting loss to South Carolina with a 41-20 whipping at Neyland Stadium on Saturday night.

But the Vols lost star receiver Bru McCoy to a serious lower leg injury. He was taken off the field on a cart and on to the hospital as players from both sides took a knee.

A South Carolina player fell on his leg after a reception. His family had come from California to watch him play.

The Vol defense kept South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler penned in all night. He was limited to 169 yards passing and overthrew one receiver on a pass that was taken for a UT score that put the Vols up 24-10 at the half.

Jaylen Wright started the Vol scoring with a 42-yard scamper. Jabari Small scored a second first half TD.

A Joe Milton pass to Jacob Warren along the left side of the end zone gave the Vols their biggest lead at 31-10.

However, Mario Anderson, a transfer from Newberry, broke free for a 75-yard scoring run.

Kicker Charles Campbell gave Tennessee three more points and kept it as a three-possession game.

Dylan Sampson had the final Tennessee touchdown.

Milton had 239 yards passing, but gave up two interceptions.

Squirrel White had 104 yards receiving, including a circus catch down the right sideline.
