Lee Men's Soccer Ties West Florida 0-0

  • Sunday, October 6, 2024
On a hot Sunday afternoon, the Lee University men’s soccer team battled the University of West Florida Argonauts to a 0-0 draw. It was the fifth time in the series history that the game as been a scoreless draw between the Flames and the Argos. With the draw the Flames improved to 3-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in GSC action.

It was a game where the chances came few and far between. Lee had eight shots while UWF had seven with two on goal. Jakob Buhrkuhl had two saves in the tie. Both teams really had only one attempt that put a scare into the defense.

There were more combined fouls than shots on the day.
Lee had 15 fouls and two yellow cards while UWF had 16 fouls and four yellow cards.

Seven corner kicks were attempted in the game with all of them in the second half. Lee had five while UWF had two.

The Flames will be head out on the road to take on Lander University in Greenwood, SC, next Saturday at 6 PM.

Coach Derek Potteiger’s Thoughts:

“It was a classic GSC game. It is so hard to play Friday night and come back Sunday afternoon. But is a gut check as they say. But I thought our guys really battled coming off an emotional disappointing Friday. To flip it around and play one of the top teams in the GSC and prove we can go toe-to-toe. We’ve done that all year our record just doesn’t reflect that. This does them some good especially after the last game.”

“These next two weeks we’ve been looking forward to. We get to rest but also train and get better. During the fast season a lot of times you are just preparing for the next game. Now we have some time to train and learn.”
