The Lee University volleyball team completed what had to be a long and tiring back and forth three-game road trip with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-21) victory over host University of West Alabama on Tuesday evening. The win gave the Lady Flames a 2-1 record on the road swing and even their GSC record at 3-3 and 9-9 overall.
Coach Christa Fabre’s team returns to Walker Arena on Thursday and will face an old NAIA rival and a new member of the GSC in Trevecca Nazarene. The Trojans will bring a 4-2 conference mark into the battle.
The Lady Flames will be right back in action on Friday and host another GSC opponent in Auburn University at Montgomery. Both matches are slated for a 6 p.m. start.
Lee had a solid .284 attack percentage in the victory over the Tigers. It out-hit the home club 37-26. Sara Palumbo led the way with an impressive evening. She had 13 kills and a .385 attack mark. The freshman also came up with four digs. Carmen Perez followed with five kills and a .300 attack percentage. She went to the net for two blocks.
Naomi Hockless, Payton Danley and newcomer Jada Whittal had four kills each. Hockless had a pair of blocks. Berra Soyler fed her teammates with 16 assists and Madison Dahl added 13 assists and a pair of service aces. Izzy Denton had two aces and led her team with eight digs while Julia Davis recorded a pair of blocks.
For the Tigers, KB Kinney had eight of her team’s 26 kills. She also had two aces as the West Alabama team recorded 11 service aces but had 12 errors. Taylor Lamontagne was the most consistent Tiger performer, finishing with 21 assists, two aces and 10 digs.
