Lee Track Earns Gulf South Weekly Awards

 The Lee University women's indoor track and field team had a strong showing this past weekend and swept the Gulf South Conference weekly awards. Aria Hawkins was the track athlete of the week, Liz Lannom was the field athlete of the week, and Estella Clemons was the freshman of the week.

The Lee University women's track & field team competed in two separate meets this weekend. The Lady Flames were at the Birmingham CrossPlex for the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker on Friday, while five others traveled to Boston for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.

Aria Hawkins and Estella Clemons each met an NCAA Division II Provisional Standard in Boston on Saturday. Hawkins surpassed the standard of 9:53.07 in the 3000-meter Run. She placed sixth in her heat and was 42nd overall with a time of 9:19.54. The run was the 15th fastest time in NCAA DII history and was a personal best by 30 seconds.

 Clemons won her heat of the Mile and was 21st overall with a qualifying time of 4:52.19. The time to beat was 4:55.64. It was also a personal best by 27 seconds.

Lannom, another freshman, set several bests as well. Lannom was sixth at 24.83 seconds in Birmingham in the 200-meter dash. In the 60-meter hurdle, Lannom was 18th with a 9.22. In the high jump, she cleared 1.65 meters for second.

 After a solid showing in the first indoor track and field meet of the season, Lee University senior Camden Williams was named Gulf South Conference field athlete of the week as announced by the league on Wednesday.

At the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker, Camden Williams was sixth in the Shot Put and seventh in the Weight Throw with throws of 15.49 meters and 16.74 meters, respectively.
