Two Mexican Restaurants are opening here. One of them, Molcajete Mexican Restaurant, will be opening its second location at 6062 Arbury Way, Unit 102, in Ooltewah. The other location of this business is at 6231 Perimeter Dr. in Chattanooga. The restaurant uses fresh, authentic Mexican ingredients and their beer will be sold from a fully stocked bar. It is open on Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and there is a Happy Hour from 3 to 9 p.m. daily.
The second new Mexican eatery for the city is Restaurant El Sol, 1818 E. Main St. It is a family-owned business of David Shellvin and Marleny Kelly Perez. The food style is described as Mexican-Guatemalan, and it specializes in tacos. Hours are from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily. It has received a permit to sell consumer beer to accompany the food.
Granny’s Bar, 235 E. M.L. King Blvd., was approved for a consumer and a carry-out beer license on Thursday. It is owned by the same group that owns other bars in Chattanooga, No Hard Feelings and Bless Yer Heart. The new sports bar/restaurant opened in November. There are multiple Hi Def TVs for viewing sports. Granny’s is open until 3 a.m. daily.
Home 2 Suites Chattanooga Hamilton Place, 2330 Center St., received a consumer/carry-out beer license to add to the amenities it offers. No beer has been sold there in the past. The general manager for the hotel told the City Beer Board that the permit is for hotel guests to be able to buy beer from their “pantry market.” Employees of the hotel are in the process of being trained in alcohol sales.
The application to sell beer at Frank’s Grocery, 601 Tunnel Blvd., was passed to the next beer board meeting. There has been a recent ownership change of the convenience store, which had its license revoked due to shootings and a homicide in the past. The past problems cannot be held against the new owners, and they have met the requirements so the board cannot deny a beer license, it was stated.
However, the Beer Board members want to make sure that the new owners are aware of the past issues at the location before a new beer permit is approved. The application will be heard at the next meeting of the Chattanooga Beer Board where owners Kittisak Shatchavan and Natcharee Coats will be required to be present.
