I really don't know how many times I've watched the classic, "The Wizard of Oz". Being a parent and grandparent, I've watched it a lot. It's a good example of the moral ambiguity of a simple story of good versus evil. It's important to remember that Dorothy did not create the cyclone, she was caught up in it.
Let me get to the point here: I'm trying to follow the yellow brick road to get some answers. I follow our Hamilton County Commission meetings on YouTube and as a disclaimer, any correlation between the lion, scarecrow and tin man are coincidental.
The similarity would be me trying to figure out what three of the characters on the County Commission are doing.
I happen to like all three of these men, but I don't see answers from my previous letters being answered. As a member of this county, I both deserve and expect better. Any reader who resides in Hamilton County should have the same expectations.
A glaring example is the postponement of appointing the new County Attorney. Wording such as "Mr. Taylor would be open" to serve another two years tells me he is willing to follow the decision of Chancellor Atherton and leave July 1, 2025, when his contract expires. Mr. Taylor has earned the right to retire, and do as he pleases. He should be respected enough to not be played as a pawn.
County Trustee Bill Hullander explained to the Commission that it is against Tennessee law to forgive the taxes of the Hamilton County Humane and Educational Society. Look guys, I understand that the building is named after a very good man, John Foy. He and his wife made a generous donation to see it built. David Sharpe, your wife Rebekah is still working for Mr. Foy, right?
The yellow brick road is leading me to believe David Sharpe, Jeff Eversole and Chip Baker have another agenda. It's because they are constantly bickering with our duly elected County Mayor Wamp. Whatever Mayor Wamp wants, they are against. This has really become annoying, as all three of you gentlemen are above this. Don't get caught up in moral ambiguity, just do the job you were elected to do and work with the Mayor "we the people" overwhelmingly elected. If you want to run against him when election times comes around, do it in the open.
Beware, the wicked witch in all men is capable of getting him off path, off the yellow brick road, and eventually leading him to a place he may not want to be. Don't cause your own cyclone.
