For non-natives or younger folks in the Gig City in 2024 a jitney is “an unlicensed taxicab that carries passengers for a low price” (25 cents in the 1950s-1960s).

The history of said mode of transportation in sooty Choo Choo City is beginning in 1905 is described in the Chattanoogan.com article Saturday, November 14, 2020 that concludes with a discussion about federal subsidized Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) and the private profiteers Uber and Lyft.

Since brevity is one of the expressed goals of this writer (most of the time) any of my millions of paid subscribers are referred to the article.

Boycotts, segregation, high price of gasoline, Southern Coach Lines, urban renewal, effect, etc. are all part of the jitney history.
