Chattanooga used a pair of home runs to beat Jacksonville State 4-0 in softball action Wednesday night at Jana McGinnis field on the JSU campus. The Mocs improved to 7-4 overall and claimed a sixth straight victory.
Camryn Cernuto led off the game with a bunt single to third and was sacrificed to second by Abi Pikas. Cernuto scored from second on a single to left field and Lipari rolled into second. Clean up batter Kaili Phillips took a full count out of the park to left center putting Chattanooga up 3-0 early in the game.
Kendall Forsythe stepped into a first pitch and put it over the fence in center field to add another run for the Mocs in the sixth.
Chattanooga got a hit from six different players. Phillips went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Lipari drove in one on a single and Forsythe was 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
Jacksonville got a hit in the first and a double to lead off the seventh inning but stranded five runners. JSU’s pitcher Holmes struck out eight, walked two and had four earned runs.
Chattanooga returns to action this weekend at the Frost Classic beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m. against Texas A&M Corpus Christi at Frost Stadium.

• Kaili Phillips hit her third home run of the season to tie Olivia Lipari for the team lead.

• Taylor Long struck out three and picked up her fourth win of the season.
