The Chattanooga Mocs cruised to a 47-4 win over the Presbyterian Blue Hose Friday night in Maclellan Gym. The Mocs are 10-3 overall, 4-1 in the Southern Conference wrestling standings, while the Blue Hose fall to 3-10, 0-3 in the league.
"Still not satisfied," Coach Kyle Ruschell said as the interviewer knew anything less than 60-0 isn't good enough. "I mean, at this level, are you ever really satisfied? We had a couple of classes where our guys needed to continue to push through the seven minutes instead of just kind of coasting in or settling for a decision when you can get a major or a major when a tech is possible.
"We need to do better a job and be in position, so it's harder to get to us.
We need to do better at looking for scores. But we saw a little bit of progress today."
The match opened at 157 with a Lincoln Heck third period tech fall blanking Eli Holiday 18-0. Kamdyn Munro followed with a 13-3 major before Sergio Desiante put the match out of reach with a second period tech fall over Joshua Roe. The Blue Hose had forfeits coming at 125, 141 and 149 so the opening 14-point salvo clinched the win three matches into the contest.
Caleb Roe got the visitors on the board with a major of his own before a special couple of moments. Ryan Stein, wrestling up at 197, got his first career win with a third period tech followed by Senior Night festivities.
"Great to see Steiner get that first win and it was a tech," Ruschell noted. "It's his first collegiate win, so that's a big deal. So, proud of him. He's got to continue to build off that, and he does a good job.
"Every senior night is special because those guys have given a lot to the program. Some of the careers ended a little early because of injuries, so it's great to see that they're here and they care about the guys behind them and so to see their face and then get recognized."
Kaleb Snodgrass added a major at 285 with three of the next four matches netting 18 points via forfeits for Chaz McDonald (125), Isaiah Powe (141) and Noah Castillo (149). Blake Boarman put an exclamation point on the win with a 1:36 fall at 133.
Sunday’s home finale starts on the Maclellan Gym mat at 2 p.m. It’s the annual Alumni Match with all the festivities and fellowship that makes it one of the most exciting matches of the year. App State is the opponent with tickets available on GoMocs.com.
