The Tennessee Lady Vols, still smarting from their almost-win against undefeated South Carolina, raced past Green Bay, 92-63, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at Reynolds Coliseum.
Tennessee trailed by six early in the contest to the Phoenix, who capitalized on open three-point shots. The momentum changed after coach Kellie Harper extended the defense and Rickea Jackson got going. She finished with 26 points and nine rebounds.
Sara Puckett scored 14 and Jewell Spear 13 in the balanced attack.
Tess Darby came off the bench to tally 11.
Guard Maddy Schreiber scored 13 for Green Bay, which featured a cast of juniors who will be back next season.
The Phoenix finish 27-7, while the Lady Vols, who got only a six seed, are 20-12.
Tennessee led at the half, 46-28, as Green Bay underwent a long drought and only managed seven points in the second quarter.
