Cleveland State Rallies For 14-9 Win Over Roane State

It took an extra inning this time against the Raiders, but the Cleveland State Cougars baseball pulled out another win.

Cleveland State (21-9, 7-5) swept the series moving into fourth place in the conference with a 14-9 ten inning win against Roane State (20-16, 6-6).

The Raiders got out to a fast start putting up five runs in the first with the first three being unearned. Seventh batter Tanner Park hit a two-run homer for the team's two earned runs.

After the first, starter Austin Breedlove settled in not allowing another run and finished going seven innings striking out 11 allowing seven hits and two earned runs while walking two.

The Cougars put up two runs in the top of the second when Harrison Garrett doubled home Hunter Ryan and Ty Nettles.
Then Cleveland State tied it up in the top of the third with Evan Goins scoring on an error, Riley Orr lining out to left field to bring home Cannon Stafford and Ryan doubling home Nettles.

In the top of the seventh Orr hit a solo homer to put Cleveland State on top for the first time and in the eighth Nate Dunfee hit a two-run homerun bringing in Ryan to put the Cougars up three.

Then, in the bottom of the eighth, Park hit a grand slam to put Roane State on top by one run. In the top of the ninth with bases loaded Stafford scored on a fielder's choice hit by Nettles.

In the top half of the extra frame Cleveland State scored five runs putting the game out of reach for the Raiders. De'Yon Cannon singled in Kain Collins, Orr did the same bringing in Stafford, Nettles drove in Cannon on a single and Dunfee drove in Nettles and Orr.

Ben Norton (2-0) earned the victory going 1.2 innings allowing no runs on one hit while striking out one and walking one.

The Cougars return to the field on Tuesday hosting Calhoun Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
