Lee University will host the Second Senior Art Showcase, April 18-23, in the Squires Library Fine Art Gallery. There will be an opening reception held on Thursday, April 18, from 5-6 p.m. in the gallery.

“Senior shows are significant to our program because they offer the students the opportunity to share the skills they have mastered with their unique voices,” said Victoria Phillips, visiting art professor. “Our senior shows are well attended, and we are so proud to host them for our students to display their work for the Lee and Cleveland communities."

This showcase, which follows the First Senior Art Showcase held earlier this month, will display original bodies of thematic work from graduating art students. The artist’s statements will be posted with each work to give viewers a sense of the artist’s vision and methods.

Art students that will have their work on display include Bethany Carroll, Bernard Carter, Zachary Francis, Doniven Jackson, Sage McClung, Erin O’Fallon and Nicole Williams.

“I’ve had a dream of creating graphic novels since I was a child, and I believe that short comics are a good springboard for my goals,” said Ms. Carroll. “My piece ‘Tapeworm Corbett’ is an off-beat story about a boy who is kidnapped by two sorcerers and tricked into becoming a host for magical tapeworms.”

Of her series pieces titled “In-Between,” Ms. McClung shares, “I have loved combining the two mediums of photography and digital illustration while creating a series that most honestly portrays my passions as an artist. My favorite aspect of creating is bringing joy to the people who view my work.”

The Second Senior Art Show is free and open to the public during regular operating hours of the library, which can be found by visiting libguides.com/homepage. Squires Library is on the corner of 11th Street and Paul Conn Parkway.
