Irma Lee Smith, 87, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, in a local hospital.

She was a 1954 graduate of Howard High School. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where she was a stewardess, choir member, chairperson of the MAY Calendar Tea, and served on the Culinary Committee. Irma was a member of the Howard Alumni Class of 1954. She was an employee for Loveman’s Department Store where she worked for over 30 years.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Woods Smith; grandparents, Joseph and Rosa Woods; and brother, Robert R. Smith. Survivors include her sisters, Cecilia R. Allgood and Marva L. Nelson, both of Chattanooga; nephews, Robert R. Carroll of Chattanooga; niece, Anita R. Allgood of Atlanta; great-nieces, Chanelle R. Carroll and Alexis C. Campbell; great-nephew, Jacob E. Carroll; and great-great-nephew, Ezana X. Campbell, all of Chattanooga; several cousins; other relatives and friends. Irma had no natural children, but she was a mother to many.

Irma will lie in state on Friday, April 19, from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor A.J. Holman as the eulogist.

Burial will be in Old Wood Station Cemetery in Rock Springs, Ga.
