In keeping with the tradition of defining words that politicians (mostly) and disgruntled citizens use but do not normally explain its meaning this dictionary search is made for the benefit of my fellow public school dropouts whose curriculum was normally limited to the 3 topics of “reading, writing, and arithmetic.”

The selection of Senator JD Vance to be “The Donalds” running mate in the November melee has produced some 1st Amendment non-violent comments by some regular and new voices under the Latest Headlines section on 7/16/2024 and in light of his nontrust fund financial background service in the military (Marines) in Iraq, married to only one woman, lack of contact with table dancers, flip flop of attitude towards Donald Trump as compared to his now fellow candidate for the two top posts in Washington and the nation.

Sycophant is defined as follows:

1. A person who acts obsequiously (over eager to gain favor) toward someone important in often to gain favor;

2. A person who is a leech, parasite, sponge, toady, flatterer or self seeker (wow!);

3. A person who tries to win favor from wealthy or influential people by flattering them (also known as brown nosers, teachers pets, or suck ups); and finally

4. The term is alleged to have come from the legal system of Classical Athens (not McMinn County) and arose out of the crime of stealing figs.

(Readers are fortunately entitled under the Free Speech Clauses to make their own interpretations of the qualifications of the Senator from the Buckeye State to serve in the backup position for the GOP and any other qualifiers for the November 5, 2024 contest.)
