The Girls Preparatory School Bruisers dominated the Battle Ground Academy Lady Wildcats at the UTC Intramural Fields with a final score of 3-0. GPS has been having a wonderful season with a nearly perfect record of 6-1-2. Saturday night they faced another great opponent in BGA that would hope to slow their winning season down. Despite the best efforts of the Franklin, Tenn. natives, there was little they could do to stop the Bruisers from having their way.

“It feels really good to get the win,” said starting winger for GPS, Hannah Wise. “It definitely wasn’t one of our better games, but I think we had a lot of pass attempts, and I feel like we worked well as a team. We definitely in practice focus on midfield a lot.  That’s where you get most of your passes from. It is pretty easy to lead as a senior on the team. We are all really good friends. Mary and I have been playing together for a really long time, but it’s a mix among the whole team. There are a lot of transfers and a lot of new people.  A lot of freshmen on our team too. Our goal is to win state.”

GPS prides themselves in how they take care of the ball. Since the beginning of the season, they took care of business by making sure every pass was on target and to the right person. They took their time in their build up plays by waiting for the right pass to make. This put them in scoring position multiple times. The first goal did just that in the eighth minute of play. The ball had made its way along the right side of the field to find its way to Hannah Wise. Wise, who had a spectacular night, played the ball into the top of the box to midfielder Mary Wamack who hit it first time and scored.

Mary Wammack spoke about the team and the mentality of this season. Here is what she had to say:

“I definitely think we focus a lot on positivity and just bringing up other girls. We make sure that no one feels lower no matter the age you are. Yes, there is seniority on our team, but like every team we make sure everyone can play. no matter how old you are. We are known as a younger team. We all work together and stay positive, and we bring each other up. Our goal is to just win no matter what.

Super sub, Kallie West, came onto the field with minutes left in the first half. What seemed like a common substitution to give their striker a break, turned into the second goal of the game.  This time the ball made its way to the other skilled winger Brooke Arnold. Arnold was quick in transition and found an open pass to the feet of Katie West who bodied the defender and placed a strong ball into the back of the net. Then another goal followed that right after halftime from Hannah Wise. Wise, with the help and assist of Ellison Ball, created a perfect counterattack that led to a quick goal to start the half and clinch the win 3-0.
