David French
Southern Adventist University’s School of Journalism and Communication invites the community to a presentation by David French, JD, columnist for The New York Times and nationally recognized religious liberty expert. Mr. French will speak on the topic “A Nation Divided: Where Do We Go From Here?” followed by a discussion and Q&A session moderated by Chattanooga news anchor LaTrice Currie from WRCB-TV Local 3 News.
The event is set for Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. in Iles P.E. Center on the university campus. This is the third event in the R. Lynn Sauls Lecture Series.
Mr. French writes about law, culture, religion, and armed conflict as he defends free speech, religious freedom, and due process in courtrooms across the country. A graduate of Harvard Law School in Massachusetts, he was previously a senior editor at The Dispatch, published in North Carolina, and a contributing writer at The Atlantic, based in Washington, D.C. He is a former constitutional litigator and past president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. A retired major in the United States Army Reserve and veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Mr. French was awarded the Bronze Star. His most recent book, Divided We Fall: America’s Secession Threat and How to Restore Our Nation, outlines the dangers of polarization and the need to engage with people who have opposing viewpoints.
Ms. Currie co-anchors Local News at Noon as well as the 5:30 p.m. broadcast and serves as the Eye On Health reporter and host of Trends on 3. She is a native Tennessean from Nashville.
