No. 23 ranked Covenant volleyball team began its first of three games in Kentucky with its first ever battle with Illinois College. After splitting the first two sets, Covenant won the third and fourth sets in close fashion to move to 4-0.
Final score was 3-1 (25-19, 14-25, 25-21, 25-22).
Freshman Kayley Shanfelt had a breakout game for the Scots with a career-high 12 kills on a .435 hitting percentage. Hannah Mathis made an impact on both sides of the net with eight kills and six total blocks.
Assist wise, Amber Snook tallied 17 while Cali Sandhoff totaled 16 to go with her eight kills. Kelsey Carman flirted with a double-double with seven kills and eight digs.
Defending CCS Defensive Player of the Week, Sarah Jennings, had 14 digs tonight.
Covenant takes on Centre and No. 19 Transylvania tomorrow afternoon.
