Free Tennessee 101 Classes At The MOHHC By Linda Moss Mines Begin Jan. 19

Chattanooga and Hamilton County’s official historian, Linda Moss Mines, is offering a free series of classes - - TENNESSEE 101 - - one Sunday afternoon each month at 2 p.m. at the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center. The new sessions begin this Sunday.

Classes are designed for both young adults and adults and encourage participant involvement in the discussions.

"From the serious moments that have shaped our culture to the humorous and ‘tall tales’ that form our consciousness as Tennesseans, the discussions are riveting and informative," she said.

The first class will introduce [or reacquaint] attendees with important events in frontier times - - the Regulator Movement, the Watuaga Settlement and Sycamore Shoals, the Robertson and Donelson expedition and Fort Nashborough, the State of Franklin and the Treaty of the Holstein.


Attendees will also get a chance to meet the founding fathers and mothers as they are introduced to John Sevier, William Blount, Lydia Russell Bean, Nancy Ward and others.

Participants will leave the session with a host of new friends from history.

Future sessions will occur at 2 p.m. on March 9, March 30, May 4 and June 8.

No prior registration is required.
