Review for Michael Yeung:
With a career spanning the United States, Europe, and Asia, Mr. Yeung is an exceptional percussion artist. Winner of the Young Concert Artists 2023 Susan Wadsworth International Auditions, his solo recitals include a wide repertoire of music from the Baroque to the 21st century. As a chamber musician, Mr. Yeung appeared with the internationally acclaimed Percussion Collective of reinventive young artists in the world premiere of composer Alejandro Viñao’s Poems and Prayers. His orchestral experience includes playing timpani with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, in the 33rd Castell de Peralada Festival in Barcelona, Spain.
Mr. Yeung is completing his studies with world-renowned percussion pedagogue Robert van Sice in Yale School of Music in Connecticut, only the second percussionist ever to be admitted to the school’s prestigious Artist Diploma program. Mr. Yeung returns to his native Hong Kong each summer to teach young students and curate multimedia percussion productions. Most recently, he initiated a series of concerts sponsored by TEDx in Shenzhen, China, including the highlight of Emmy Award-winning composer Garth Neustadter’s percussion sextet Seaborne honoring endangered oceans.
