Tina Underwood, 87, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, in a local hospital.

A devoted member of New Salem Baptist Church, Tina was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a former owner of Better Bookkeeping and Tax Service in Hixson. Her life was defined by her unwavering faith, dedication to her family, and her kind and generous spirit was manifest in her volunteer work at CHI Memorial Hospital and her contributions to several worthwhile charities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Viola Phillips; her son, Dr. James Gardner Jr.; and her ten beloved brothers and sisters.

Tina leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her husband, James Newman; her sons, Shawn (Karen Harvey) Williams and James D. (Tina) Newman; her daughters, Valda (Jeff) Pollard, Carmia Gardner, Kathy (Johnny) Hixson, and Angela Newman; her grand-dog, Sugar; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and an extended family and host of friends who will miss her dearly.

Funeral services to honor Tina's life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, in the Chapel of Legacy Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5-6:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Hamilton County Memorial Park on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Tina’s memory.

Tina’s loving heart and remarkable spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
