McCallie School Alumnus, Former Professor, And Founder Of Bio Technology Company

Matthew B. Hudson, 41, died unexpectedly from complications of the flu in a Philadephia hospital on February 12, 2025.

Matthew was raised on Signal Mountain, and graduated from The McCallie School. While at McCallie he was on the diving, cross country and track teams and in his senior year, Matthew was the Tennessee state champion in the 800 meters and 1600 meters. Matthew received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming where he earned Academic All American honors in track, his master's degree from Appalachian State University, his Ph.D from the University of Florida and his post doctoral fellowship from Emory University.

Matthew was a tenured tract professor first at Temple University and then at the University of Delaware before he left the academic world to co-found Extrave Bioscience, Inc. , a bio technology company specializing in medical research of muscle diseases.

Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Kraftin E. Schreyer, his two young sons, Warner Kraft Hudson and Roderick Raymond Hudson, his two dogs, Exo and Myo, his parents, Rick and Linda Hudson and his sister, Rebecca Hudson. He is also survived by two aunts, two uncles and numerous cousins.

Matthew was an extraordinary young man, and he will best be remembered for his devotion to Kraftin, Warner and Roderick.
