Flamingos and water cannons launched Allegiant Air's inaugural nonstop flight from Chattanooga (CHA) to Punta Gorda, Fla. (PGD) on Thursday. Passengers enjoyed festive send-off celebrations, including custom beachy sugar cookies and a colorful, flamingo balloon arch.
The new biweekly service was announced in November 2024 and will run seasonally from February through May, offering flights on Thursdays and Sundays. Travelers can now enjoy convenient access to Punta Gorda’s scenic beaches, with nearby attractions in Sarasota, Fort Myers and other West Coast beaches.
“Allegiant continues to be a valued partner to our city and airport,” said April Cameron, president and CEO of Chattanooga Airport. “We are proud to offer this new nonstop service between two great leisure destinations and extend our deepest gratitude to Allegiant for their ongoing investment in our region.”
Jim Hall, chairman of the Chattanooga Airport board, highlighted the airport’s commitment to enhancing travel options for the local community. “With the addition of new destinations like Punta Gorda, Chattanooga Airport continues to prove it’s the preferred choice for travelers in East Tennessee and Northwest Georgia,” Mr. Hall said.
Mayor Tim Kelly emphasized the advantages this new route brings to travelers from both regions. “With direct access to one of Florida’s top beach destinations, this new service also opens doors for visitors to experience Chattanooga's unique hospitality and attractions,” Mayor Kelly said.
Allegiant currently offers nonstop service from Chattanooga to three other destinations: Las Vegas, Tampa and Orlando.
