Covenant Athletes Break School Records At Samford Bulldog Open

The Covenant College men's and women's track teams returned to the Birmingham Crossplex for the third time this winter to compete in the Samford Bulldog Open. During the meet, Covenant set four school records. 

Emma Christensen raced in both the 60m prelims and the 200m where she had times of 8.29 and 27.75. Her 60m time is a new school record. 

Another school record was broken, this one by Evangelia Berry in the 3,000m with a time of 10:57.89 which placed her eighth.

With a jump of 2.81m, Sarah Holler broke a school record in the Pole Vault event to finish fourth place.

Placing second in the 5,000m with a personal record time of 19:33.08 was Emerson Tillery. Greta McLean also raced and placed eighth with a personal record time of 20:36.52. 

Covenant raced three women in the 1 Mile led by Kenzil Stapleton with a sixth place finish and a time of 5:37.69. Claire Mellot (16th, 6:05.88) and Kali Hina (20th, 6:36.76) also competed.

Daehla Smith was a participant in three events for the Scots: 60m prelims (37th, 8.53), 200m (34th, 28.12), Long Jump (24th, 4.25m).

Josephine Swinburnson led Covenant in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.51m to place 22nd. 
Sophia Wiersema (12th, 9.45m) and Elie Berndt (19th, 7.68m) competed in the Shot Put event. 

In the 800m event, Sophia Velleco set a personal record in the 800m with a time of 2:38.75 to finish 12th. 

Sarah Olson made her collegiate debut in the 3,000m where she posted a time of 11:56.93 to finish 13th. 

In the men's competition, Ethan Saiki broke the school record in the 5000m event with a time of 15:27.58 to put him in third place on the leaderboard. 

Alex Burns (10th, 16:35.57) and Jack Dupree (12th, 17:09.48) also competed in the 5,000m and set personal records. 

Josiah Mellott finished 16th in the 1 Mile event with a time of 4:32.20 which is the second-fastest in school history. 

Chandler Lines (29th, 4:39.02) and Ethan Caswell (36th, 4:47.29) set personal records in the 1 Mile alongside Mellott. 

Bodie Rogers represented Covenant in the short distance events as he posted a time of 7.47m in the 60m prelims and a time of 24.35 in the 200m event. Both are personal records. 

Trey Faulk led Covenant in the 800m with a time of 2:05.41 to finish 18th and set a new personal record. Andor Agustsson (31st, 2:12.34)  and John Purtill (34th, 2:16.44) also raced in this event. 

The Scots had three runners set personal records in the 3,000m event: Aidan DeVries (24th, 9:41.63), Jacob Howington (25th, 9:44.13), Samuel Harrelson (26th, 9:49.11). 

Codey Parrish led Covenant in the Shot Put event with a throw of 11.72m to place 19th while Cheney Byrd had a throw of 10.75m to finish 21st. 

Byrd was Covenant's best thrower in the Weight Throw with a throw of 10.90m to finish 16th while Parrish posted a throw of 9.21m to place 19th. 

Covenant wraps up its indoor slate on Feb. 22 at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational.
