UTC Women To Host Alabama A&M Saturday In WNIT

  • Monday, March 17, 2025
For the seventh time in program history, Chattanooga women’s basketball will see its season extended with the team receiving a spot in the 2025 Women’s National Invitation Tournament where the Mocs will face off against Alabama A&M on Saturday, March 22, as announced by the WNIT.

Following a 2024-25 campaign in which the Mocs finished 16-14 overall (9-5 SoCon) and ended up as the Southern Conference’s second-place finisher in both the regular season standings as well as the 2025 SoCon Tournament, Chattanooga earned itself an at-large bid into the 27th installment of the WNIT.
The Mocs will now play host to the Bulldogs (21-10, 14-4 SWAC), a team that UTC has only met on the women’s hardwood twice before, most recently in 2008.

“The success we had this season was in large part due to our seniors and their leadership,” head coach Deandra Schirmer said. “To get the chance to extend their careers and play another game at home is a dream scenario and we are so grateful for this opportunity.

“Our fans are the best in the country and we are so happy to have postseason basketball here in the Roundhouse.”

This will be the seventh time in Chattanooga’s 51-year history that the Mocs will take part in the postseason WNIT. UTC’s most recent bid into the WNIT came in 2018 (Chattanooga would have received the program’s eighth bid into the 2020 WNIT, but the tournament was ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

The Mocs hold an overall record of 4-6 in WNIT games all-time. UTC’s deepest run came back in 1984, when the Mocs finished as WNIT Runners-Up under Sharon Fanning.
