The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Dalton recorded an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent in January, down one and nine-tenths of a percent over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 4.1 percent.

The labor force decreased in Dalton by 1,457 and ended the month with 67,787. That number went down by 323 when compared to January 2024.
Dalton finished the month with 64,945 employed residents. That number decreased by 50 over-the-month and declined by 353 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Dalton ended January with 68,400 jobs. That number decreased by 1,100 from December to January and remained unchanged when compared to this time last year.
In January, initial unemployment claims increased by 796 in Dalton. When you compare December 2023 claims to December 2022, claims were up by 647, totaling 4,200.
