The Lee University softball team split a doubleheader with Christian Brothers University on Saturday afternoon. Lee run ruled CBU 11-1 in the first game and then fell 6-2 in game two. CBU took the series 2-1 as they improved to 12-18 and 4-13 in GSC play while Lee fell to 17-14 and 4-12 in conference action.
GAME 1
Lee scored in the second inning to take the lead. Rylie Goodridge led the inning off with a single. Hayden Gardner and Kaelin Ault were walked to load the bases before Bella Galloway drive in Goodridge with a single.
However, the Lady Flames could not capitalize anymore and left the bases loaded.
Galloway delivered again in the top of the fourth inning. After Hailey Simco and Kaelin Ault got on with singles, Galloway drove them home with a deep single. Alexa Scalzo then doubled to score Galloway. Simco made it to third on an error by the left fielder. Ana Macha then singled to third base to score Scalzo. Javaria Smith was then walked to put two on base and force a pitching change from CBU. Goodridge came up next and singled into left field to score Macha. Goodridge was then thrown out trying to sneak to second base to end the frame. Lee scored five runs on six hits in the fourth to make it a 6-0 lead.
Lee added another five runs in the fifth inning. Simco got on with a single and then Alyson Jarvi was walked. Kaelin Ault delivered a single to score Simco. After a successful Galloway bunt, Scalzo had her second RBI of the day with a single to bring Ault home. Macha singled to load the bases for Smith. She then hit in-between the legs of the second baseman to bring in Galloway and Scalzo for the final runs of the frame.
CBU got two singles in the fifth to score a run, but Layne Bailey got a strikeout to end the game in the fifth for the Lady Flames
Lee had 15 hits in the game with only one extra base hit. Goodridge and Galloway each had three hits. Galloway had three RBI to lead Lee.
Madison Barnett earned the win going four innings and giving up two hits while striking out five. Layne Bailey threw an inning and gave up two hits on one run.
Game 2
CBU got a run in the bottom of the first. An error, stolen base and a single brought a run across for the Lady Bucs. CBU doubled the lead in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to centerfield. CBU used three hits to plate a third run in the third inning.
CBU scored two more runs in the fourth on a couple of hits to extend the lead to 5-0. A sixth run came across for CBU in the fifth inning.
The Lady Flames finally got on the board in the sixth inning. With two outs, Ava Perkins singled and then Bella Galloway doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Kaelin Ault then hit a long single to the wall to score Perkins and Galloway. Lee could not get a base runner on in the seven to fall 6-2.
CBU outhit Lee 13-5 in the contest. No one had more than one hit for Lee in the loss while Ault had two RBI.
Natalie Pruitt-Geesey took the loss as she went four innings and gave up five runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Bailey had two innings pitched giving up five hits and one run. Gabby Dickerson earned the win for CBU giving up two runs on five hits while striking out seven.
Lee will return to action at home on Tuesday, March 25 against Young Harris College.
