Charles Edward Sledge, Jr.

Charles Edward Sledge, Jr., 78, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in a local hospital.

He was a 1969 graduate of Howard High School and received his bachelor’s of science degree from UTC. Charles was employed as a teacher by the Hamilton County Educational System. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dell Rose Sledge; mother, Annie Lois Sledge; father, Charles Edward Sledge, Sr.; brother, Thomas Ross, Jr.; and nephew, Travis A. Sledge, Jr.

Survivors include his son, Charles E. Sledge, III of Chattanooga; brother, Ronald Sledge of Louisville, Ky.; sisters, Patricia A. Moss, Deborah Sledge, both of Louisville, Cynthia Y. (Joe) Easting and Janet Blake, both of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Mildred Ross of Louisville; goddaughters, Janet Wallace of Chattanooga and Taviana Frazier of Atlanta; several nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.

Charles will lie in state on Saturday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel.
