Callie Sioux and Peter Jhett Schiavone were approved by the Beer Board for a permit to sell beer at The Woodshop, 5500 St. Elmo Ave. With the new owners, it will continue being a neighborhood bar and listening room but will now serve pick-up food such as pizza, chicken tenders and nachos. And beer and wine is available. All employees selling beer will be TABC certified. The restaurant/bar will continue as a venue for promoting and performing live, local music.
Mr. Schiavone assured the beer board that he is aware the bar is located in the middle of a neighborhood and that the music and noise will not disturb neighbors. Music ranges from blues, jazz, bluegrass and American roots music that is not highly amplified.
The small venue has a capacity of 70 plus an outdoor beer garden. Customers will have their ID checked at the door and again at the bar. Before 8 p.m. families are encouraged, but after 8:00, only customers 21 and up are allowed entry. There is a small cover charge and a food and beverage minimum.
Hours are from 5-10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and from 5-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays.
