Chattanooga Softball Splits Pair Of Games; Snap 14-Game Win Streak

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. - Chattanooga softball split a pair of games Saturday on the second day of the Make it Happen Games at the ROC Park in Madeira Beach, Fla. The loss to Siena in the opening game snapped the Mocs 14-game win streak, tied for fifth longest in program history. However, UTC got back into the win column with a 3-1 win over Central Michigan.

Baileigh Pitts hit a three-run home run to drive the Mocs past Central Michigan 3-1 while Camryn Cernuto led UTC hitting .429 with three hits. Presley Williamson hit her third home run in three games in the Mocs 2-1 loss to Siena.

Peja Goold and Alyssa Lavdis got the call Saturday. Both went the distance and each gave up just one earned run. Goold picked up her ninth win of the year and struck out five. Lavdis struck out three and did not allow a multi-base hit.

CHATTANOOGA 1, SIENA 2

Presley Williamson hit her third home run in three games, but it wouldn’t be enough for the Mocs who fell 2-1 to Siena in the opening game Saturday.

Williamson took the first pitch she saw in the fourth over the fence in left. It was her third in three games and fifth of the season.

The Mocs also got hits from Camryn Cernuto, Olivia Lipari, Lexi Cooley and pinch hitter Abi Bunt and while drawing three walks.

The Saints scored their first run in the bottom of the first and added the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to snap the Mocs 14-game win streak.

Alyssa Lavdis recorded a complete game with three strikeouts and one earned run.

CHATTANOOGA 3, CENTRAL MICHIGAN 1

Baileigh Pitts, looking at a full count, drove a three-run shot over the fence in center field to give the Mocs a 3-1 win over the Chippewas Saturday.

After giving up a run to Central Michigan in the top of the first, the Mocs struck back in the bottom of the inning.

Camryn Cernuto singled to center field with one out. Olivia Lipari showed patience at the plate drawing four straight balls after starting the at bat with an 0-2 count.

Pitts, with a full count, drove the next pitch deep to center field, driving in all three runs for the Mocs for the win.

The Mocs had nine hits on the day with two from Cernuto, Pitts, Jayce Purdy and Raven Jones. Lexi Cooley added the final hit for Chattanooga.

Peja Goold went all seven innings and struck out five batters. She walked one and allowed one run on three hits.

The Mocs improved to 17-8 overall and will take on LIU Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
