Alton J. “Jim” Anderson
Alton J. “Jim” Anderson, 89, of Rossville, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home.
Alton was born in Albertlea, Mn., on Jan. 26, 1936, but had lived in the Rossville area for many years. He joined the Army and served two years and returned to work for EMD in Lagrange, Il. In 1965, Alton was transferred to the Atlanta area were they called Rossville home. There he called a different railroads in the Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama area. Jim retired from EMD (Electro Motive Division) in 1990, from there he did consulting work for railroads and power plants. Jim owned several rental houses in the north Georgia area for many years. Gardening became a big part of his later years, he said once that he felt closer to God in the garden. He was quite the adventurous cook also studying cookbooks and trying new dishes. He was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church in Rossville.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Evelyn Anderson; his wife of 61 years, Judith A. “Judy” Anderson; daughter, Janet Holmes; his grandchildren, Abigail Biggs and Isaac Silmon; and his brother, Eldo Anderson.
Survivors include his children, Julia (Michael) Barnard of Chickamauga, Jonathan (Jenifer) Anderson of Collegedale, Jennifer (Jim) Silmon of Rome, Ga., James (Lisa) Anderson of Chickamauga, and Joyce (Larry) Jones in Charleston, SC; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Joe Anderson in Albertlea, Mn.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
