It is with heavy hearts that we announce the homegoing of Shirley Marie Pyatt Watters, a beloved mother, sister and friend, who left us on April 4, 2025.

Born on June 17, 1935, in Greene, Iowa, Shirley lived a life full of love, kindness, and dedication to her family and the Gospel ministry.

Growing up on a farm in northeast Iowa, Shirley had what children today would consider a pioneer lifestyle. She was born at home in Greene, Iowa, and for her elementary education years attended a one room schoolhouse near her birthplace. Shirley attended the small high school in Greene where she showed a keen interest in Education, and that led her to Iowa Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa. While attending Iowa Teachers College, she met her husband Dean Joseph Watters. They were married and settled in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was warm and nurturing, maintaining a sense of grace while raising her four children Vicki, Jeff, Cindy and Jon. Her character embodied the idealized vision of motherhood and homemaking, where she served as both a moral guide and a comforting presence in her children's lives. She maintained that sense of wisdom and grace after giving her life to Christ and supporting her husband through numerous moves, finally ending up in Signal Mountain, Tn.

Shirley was known for her gentle spirit, warm smile, and unwavering faith. She touched the lives of everyone she met, and her legacy will live on through the countless memories she created with her loved ones.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Dean Watters, siblings Charles Pyatt and Charmaine Wiebke and her parents John and Sibyll Pyatt.

Shirley leaves behind her four children Vicki Hooper, Jeffrey Watters, Cindy Hoelke and Jon Watters, 11 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Baptist International Missions, Inc. in her honor.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11, in the funeral home chapel followed by a graveside service at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
