Chattanooga Pipe Band
The Chattanooga Pipe Band will participate in the Honoring the Sacrifice Foundation’s American Heroes Dinner on July 11, with Johnny ‘Joey’ Jones, Fox News contributor and author of Fox News Books, as the keynote speaker.
According to foundation representative, Catherine Smith, “There is something special about a pipe and drum band through its powerful combination of sound and tradition. We included pipers and drummers at last year’s event, and the result was so moving we were motivated to reach out to the Chattanooga Pipe Band this year.”
The Chattanooga Pipe Band formed in 1998 under the direction of Pipe Major Russ Spaulding and a small group of pipers and drummers, most of whom had all been traveling to other cities to play. The band has a six-fold mission which emphasizes competing at highland games, training pipers and drummers, performing locally and regionally, educating young people in piping and drumming, entertaining and informing people regarding Celtic heritage, and fostering understanding of the Scottish arts with an emphasis on piping and drumming. The kilts worn use the Hamilton tartan in honor of Hamilton County.
Blake McPherson, band representative, said, “We are excited to participate in the American Heroes Dinner. There are several guys in the band who are retired law enforcement and veterans of the United States military.”
Held at the Chattanooga Convention Center, the American Heroes Dinner serves as a key fundraiser for the Honoring the Sacrifice Foundation whose mission is to provide direct assistance to catastrophically wounded veterans and their families. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are still available through their website, honoringthesacrifice.org.
