While University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s golf coach Blaine Woodruff was disappointed his Mocs failed to advance to the NCAA Regionals this season, the fourth-year leader must be brimming with confidence about the upcoming season.
Several of his incoming signees and current members of the squad have had a summer of success on the amateur circuit.
Rising junior Dalton Burts was co-medalist at 9-under at the Yellowhammer Invitational hosted at the RTJ Grand National course in Opelika, Ala. before winning in a playoff. Teammate Aidan Cohl, who was the 2024 champion in this event, finished tied for 14th in last weekend’s tournament.
Evan Rogers, a two-time GHSA Private Boys state champion from Duluth, Ga. headed to UTC, finished tied for 7th after shooting 6-under at the Georgia State Amateur at Atlanta Country Club. Billy Abdow, a recent transfer from the University of Georgia, finished tied for 28th.
Junior Camden Braidech, who qualified for NCAA Regionals as an individual after transferring from Liberty, tied for 14th at the rigorous Southwestern Invitational held at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz.
A trio of incoming Mocs freshmen are competing in the prestigious 107th Western Junior at Harvester Club in Rhodes, Iowa and are tied for 11th place at 1-under par, two shots off the lead.
Chattanooga’s Griffin Law opened with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday, and was 1-over thru 12 holes on Wednesday before play was suspended, while Conner Brummitt is also at 1-under after opening with a 71 and shooting even par through his opening five holes in Wednesday’s second round.
Rogers has completed his first two rounds, posting scores of 70-71 to join his teammates at 1-under.
