Kenneth “Kenny” Watkins
Kenneth “Kenny” Watkins, 69, passed away on June 16, 2025, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Born on June 29, 1955, to Robert Louis Watkins, Sr. and Valeria Jo Slaughter, Kenny’s life was marked by dedication to his craft, his family, and his community.
A proud graduate of Brainerd High School, Kenny went on to further his education at Cape Fear Community College, where he excelled in heating and air conditioning as well as electrical engineering. His expertise led him to a successful career as an independent electrical engineering contractor, HVAC technician, and certified pool and spa engineer.
Kenny was blessed with a beautiful singing voice, and his favorite song, “Keep Your Head to the Sky,” was a reflection of his optimistic spirit. He cherished time spent with his friends—the “Fellows” on Arlington Avenue—and enjoyed regular visits to the gym.
A devoted member of Olivet Baptist Church, Kenny’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Louis (Ella Mae) Watkins, Sr.; mother, Valeria Jo (Howell) Slaughter; grandmother, Willie Mae Johnson; sisters, Bernella E. Watkins and Brenda E. Carter; uncles, Tommy Slaughter and Daniel Slaughter; aunts, Irma Slaughter and Juanita Haywood; great-nephews, DeColvin Jamaal Poole and Malachi Collins; and cousin, Jullian Thomas.
Kenny’s memory will be lovingly cherished by his sons, Kenneth “Kenny” Watkins, Jr., Carlos D. Watkins, Sr., and Marcus Watkins; brothers, Robert L. Watkins, Jr. and Daniel A. Watkins; grandsons, Kenneth Watkins, III, Carlos Watkins, Jr., LaDarius Watkins, JayQuys Watkins, and Carhon Watkins; granddaughter, Alexis K. Watkins; six grandchildren; special friend, Sabrina Robinson; the Arlington Avenue Crew “The Fellows”; former spouses, Patricia Watkins and Kathy Watkins and a host of other relatives and friends.
Kenny will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering positivity. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at noon, with the family receiving friends at 10 a.m., in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
Interment will follow at Beautiful Greenwood Cemetery.
