Former Episcopal Priest Bills Arrested On Child Sex Charge

  • Thursday, February 16, 2006

A former Episcopal priest in Chattanooga has been arrested in Ohio on charges of trying to meet a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex.

Charged with importuning and attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor was Jim V. Bills, 68, of Urbana.

Police said the former priest used an Internet chat room to make contact with a detective who was posing as a 14-year-old girl.

He was taken into custody when he came to the rendezvous location.

Father Bills once headed Christ Church Episcopal Church in Chattanooga and founded the city's Episcopal Metropolitan Ministry.

He had retired after serving as rector at St. Stephens in Charleston, S.C.
