Gov. Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development (ECD) Commissioner Matthew Kisber joined Lincoln County and Goodman Company, L.P. officials to celebrate the addition of three new assembly lines at the company’s Fayetteville plant, which has created 800 new jobs in the area.
“Tennessee is enjoying a strong and vibrant economy and today’s announcement is more great news, particularly for Lincoln County,” said Gov. Bredesen. “Goodman Company represents the type of economic development we are aiming for, as we assist existing companies with their growth and expansion.”
“Goodman is proud to provide new jobs to Tennessee, Fayetteville and Lincoln County. Our employees, most of whom reside in Lincoln County, are the reason for our continued success and growth,” said Bill Miller, vice president of operations for Goodman. “We are happy to have the direct assistance of Gov. Bredesen, Comm. Kisber, our local economic development board and local and state elected officials who recognize and help us grow.”
Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Goodman is the second largest unit manufacturer of residential and light commercial heating and air conditioning products in the United States. It has four modern, high technology factories, totaling over 1,200,000 square-feet in Houston, Texas, and Dayton and Fayetteville, Tenn. The Fayetteville plant was built in 1968 by Raytheon, parent company of the Amana Brand. Goodman purchased Amana in 1996, and later sold off all of Amana appliances keeping the Fayetteville plant to manufacture residential heating and air conditioning products. Under Goodman management, the plant has seen unprecedented growth in employment and output. The company invested $6 million in its Fayetteville plant’s three assembly line expansions.
“This truly is a win for Fayetteville and we are excited to play a part in making this announcement of 800 new jobs for the area,” said ECD Commissioner Matthew Kisber. “We congratulate Goodman on this decision and are very excited about the new job opportunities and economic growth that will come from this.”
“We’re proud of Goodman’s efforts in their expansion and feel achievements like this only further strengthens our community and paves the way for more economic development. Goodman is a model of how the manufacturing industry should operate and we are proud and grateful they have chosen Fayetteville-Lincoln County to call home,” said Fayetteville City Mayor John Ed Underwood.
Lincoln County Executive Jerry Mansfield welcomed news of the company’s growth.
“Our community is extremely pleased that the Goodman family has found a home in Lincoln County. The partnership that brings together success stories like this and the many jobs for our citizens is a direct result of teamwork from our Governor, our state ECD Commissioner and his staff, and our local governmental bodies,” said Mr. Mansfield. “We want to congratulate Goodman on this day and its dedicated work force, which is a testament to the work ethic represented in our area.”
