Sara Giesemann Leeds, 82, of St. Barnabus Apartments, Chattanooga, died peacefully on Sunday, October 19.
Originally of Long Island, N.Y., she was a resident of Chattanooga for many years. Sara worked for many years in the interior design industry in Chattanooga and was a gifted tailor and craftswoman.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she gave her services as a choir member and soloist. She also sewed and cared for the choir’s robes for many years.
She was an early member of the St. Barnabas Apartments Board of Directors and was instrumental in founding the Commissary. She spent several years donating her time to maintaining the gardens and managed the Commissary as a volunteer until her death. She also spent several years maintaining the gardens.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Jacobus Giesemann and Ernest Giesemann, and her eldest brother, James Giesemann.
Survivors include her son, James Christopher Leeds and wife Ellen, of Stafford, Va.; two grandchildren, James Christopher Leeds Jr. of Stafford, Va., and Megan Leeds Weltsch of Avondale, Az.; brothers, Arnold Giesemann of Washington, D.C., and Thomas Giesemann of Ramona, Ca.; 14 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made, on Sara’s behalf, to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
