Mattie Montgomery
Mattie Pearl Pearson Montgomery, 72, affectionately known as "Mrs. Mattie," died on Wednesday, January 21, 2009.
She was born August 28, 1935 to the late Ocee and Veora Pearson of Lincoln, Al. She was educated in the Talladega County, Alabama
Public School system. She received her degree in Early Childhood Development, which served as the platform for her ministry and purpose in life of serving others. She retired from the Chattanooga Public School System, Cedar Hill Head Start Program after many years of dedication to the field of early childhood development.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ocee and Veora Pearson.
She is survived by her sons, Dana (Juanita) Montgomery, Wade (Wanda) Montgomery, Chris (Quisha) Montgomery, and Alan (Francis) Keys, Chattanooga; daughters, Cathy (Leroy) Cooper, Cleo (James) Keys, Chattanooga; brothers, Nathaniel (Rena) Pearson, Chattanooga, Bobby (Linda) Pearson, Lincoln, Al., Edith (Willie) Tyree, Cleveland, Tn., Wenda McGregon, Sylacauga, Al.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, close friends and hundreds of adopted children.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, at New Monumental Church with Pastor Delford L. Hughley Sr. and other ministers officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens.
The body will lie in state after noon on Sunday. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
