Granite map stones have been installed at the Northwest and Southeast entrances to Wolftever Greenway in Collegedale. The park's entire three-mile paved path is engraved on the stones along with distance information as a convenience to visitors.

The concept originated with members of American Legion Desmond T. Doss Post 257 in Collegedale and was primarily coordinated by Dennis Smith, past Post 257 commander and current 3rd District Commander for Tennessee’s American Legion.

Financial backing for the project came from local donations. Funds for the Northwest map stone, which is adjacent to the military park were provided by Greg Vital and Franklin Farrow, co-owners of Independent Healthcare Properties, LLC, better known as “Morning Pointe.”

Mr. Vital and Mr. Farrow contributed to the project in honor of family members who served in the U.S. Navy: Mr. Vital’s father, Petty Officer First Class Leo Vital, served during World War II from 1942-1945, and Mr. Farrow’s grandfather, Seaman First Class Fred Leon Farrow, served from 1926-1930.

Funds for the Southeast map stone, located near McKee Foods, were donated by a group of McKee Foods employees.

American Legion Desmond T. Doss Post 257, a military-based, public service organization, meets the third Thursday each month at 6 p.m. in the Collegedale City Hall.
