Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga’s ReStore received over 24 new pallets of carpet squares for sale in the ReStore thanks to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and the Strauss Company.
“Walking through the Blue Cross Blue Shield Gateway Building Renovation project one day, I noticed a large quantity of used carpet tiles stacked and scheduled to be shipped to the carpet recycle center where they would be ground up and used in future carpet products,” said Strauss Company President John Straussberger.
“The Habitat ReStore has been great about taking used commercial products and reselling them for residential use. So we made the call and the ReStore picked up the carpet tiles and now they are being used in homes and businesses across Chattanooga. To me, this is the best use for recycling building materials. All it took was a telephone call from us. The Habitat ReStore folks did the rest.
"If you are a commercial business or a residential or commercial builder, before you throw something out to be discarded or used for scrap, ask yourself: Could Habitat make use of this material and sell it at their ReStore? It’s easy. All you have to do is make the call and by doing so, you can help build more Habitat homes in Chattanooga.”
“This is the third time the ReStore has had the opportunity to partner with BlueCross BlueShield and the Strauss Company” said Tina Shaw-Cox, Habitat for Humanity ReStore Director. “We are blessed to have such generous companies that are mindful of waste and their community - So far sales from the carpet have generated over $2,000!”
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga's ReStore takes in new and recycled building materials and home goods and sells them to the public at 50-75% off retail costs.
