Island Steel Pan Band Plays At Creative Discovery Museum

  • Thursday, June 10, 2010

Island Steel Pan Band, the area’s only Caribbean-based, steel pan band, will perform at Creative Discovery Museum on June 18 at 1 p.m. on the Museum Plaza and June 26 at 2 p.m. in the Museum Atrium. This family band plays traditional instruments found in Tobago, St. Croix and Trinidad.

The band members play instruments that were originally 55 gallon steel drums. The drums were converted into instruments by cutting off the bottom and tuning the playing surface so that it can emanate a variety of musical notes.

“The group’s energetic sound of traditional island music is sure to have kids dancing and parents moving," said Liza Blair, Museum Arts manager.

Admittance to this performance is free with Museum admission. Funding for this presentation is provided by Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga and Tennessee Arts Commission.
