Carolyn Davis, a longtime resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and more recently of Alexian Inn on Signal Mountain, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
Born Margaret Carolyn Redmond, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Mary Loretta Redmond of Sheffield, Ala.
She was preceded in death by a brother Frank, Jr., a sister, Marian Redmond, husband, W. Clay Davis, son, William Frank Davis, and son-in-law, David N. Cather.
Mrs. Davis was a wife and homemaker while her children were young, but after they were grown, she worked for Nap’s Knit Shop, where she made many friends who admired her needlepoint and knitting.
Being an active person, after the Knit Shop closed, she still wanted to work, so she went to work at Belk’s and Dillard’s until she retired in 2010.
Mrs. Davis was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church on Lee Highway, but recently had been attending services at the Alexian Inn.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Cather of Signal Mountain, Debbie Draper of Chattanooga, Anne Phipps of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Julie C. Boggs of Signal Mountain, David N. Cather Jr. of Falls Church, Va., Loretta D. Garner, Lafayette, Ga., William F. Davis Jr., Ringgold, Captain Derrick Draper, Fort Campbell, Ky., Davis Draper, Cookeville, Tn., Courtney P. Detlefs, Jacksonville, Fla., and Jordan W. Phipps of Jacksonville, Fla., four great-grandchildren, Margaret “Maggie” Boggs, William Boggs, Olivia Detlefs, Jessah Davis, a very special niece, Brenda G. Dee of Hollywood, Fla., and brother in-law, Charles L. Glenn of Mobile, Ala.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 8, from 4-7 p.m.
Graveside services will be at National Cemetery on Friday, December 9, at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to American Diabetes Association or Hospice of Chattanooga would be appreciated.
