Caribbean Beach Party To Support Kids 4 Clean Water

  • Thursday, February 17, 2011

Caribbean SEA and TenneSEA will sponsor a Caribbean Beach Party on Friday, from 7:30-11:30 p.m. at The Mill of Chattanooga, just off Main Street.

All proceeds from the event will go to projects of the TenneSEA Kids 4 Clean Water and Caribbean SEA, a non- profit organization that focuses on getting kids to lead the way toward protecting their water, from the mountains to the river to the sea.

Organizers said, "Come on down to the hottest party of winter with plenty of Caribbean food and drink and live entertainment for dancing."

There will a Salsa competition between Chattanooga restaurants and limbo, dominoes, and hula hoop games. A live auction and silent auction round out the fun.

Organizers said, "We do incredible work through the power of education which leads people to action. We make sure our kids here in Chattanooga are making the connection between their everyday actions and our water quality and have inducted our first crew of middle school Clean Water Ambassadors.

"We’ve done great things this year in the Caribbean, too, like providing emergency water purification tablets for hurricane victims in St Lucia and built a public toilet with proper sanitation in Dominica with our Rotary partners. We have so much more planned, but we need your help."

Tickets are $40 per person in advance, at Leisure Time Dive, Contemporary Portraits, snail mail, or $45 per person at the door (includes food and two drinks).

Live and silent auction items will raise funds for clean water and coral reefs. Live auction items include vacation stays in islands and a cabin rental in the mountains in Tennessee. Other items have come to Tennessee straight from Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Dominica or have been donated from local supporters.

Lead Sponsors as of Jan. 1: Leisure Time Dive, Ski and Travel, Contemporary Portraits, Hamilton County Water Quality, and Pruett’s Signal Mountain Market.

Committee members are Angela Easterby, Annette Vega, Mary Coppinger, Tom Kale, Leah Crisp, Daphne Kirksey, Maureen Davis, Adam Reynolds, Eddie McCrary, Pam Hudson, Sandy Smith, Vanessa Dexter, Peggy and Scott Hunnewell, Erin Outz, Larry Cook, Mark Wisdom, Randal Hale, Connie Hill, Rebekah Mawuko, Christine Bock, Nancy Brice, Susan Russell, Lissa Goeltz, Julie Romeo, Cheryl Everhart, Mark Curran, Katie Morgan, Maria Cooksey, and Mary Beth Sutton.
