Joyce Tankersley
Joyce Adelaide Brain Tankersley, 86, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, March 26, 2011, from her home.
Born in England in 1924, she married Staff Sgt. Cecil Tankersley in 1943 during World War II, moved to the United States in 1945, and became a naturalized citizen in 1956. She always had a smile and joyous laughter.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 67 years, Cecil Tankersley; daughter, Carol Brady; sisters Florrie and Ivey of the UK; brothers, Albert of Vancouver, B.C. and Ted of UK.
Surviving are her son, Kenneth (Donna) Tankersley of Apison; daughter, Becky (James) Huffman of Calhoun, Ga.; son-in-law, Wayne Brady of Harrison; sisters Gladys and Jean in the UK; six grandchildren, Kim (Tom) Resue of Harrison, Wayne (Beth) Brady, Jr., of Cleveland; Jason (Misty) Huffman of Calhoun, Ga., Shawn Tankersley of Apison, Ryan (Elizabeth) Huffman of Calhoun, Ga., Jessica O’Shields of Phenix City, Ala.
Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Nathan and Timothy Resue of Harrison, Celeste and Chandler Huffman of Calhoun, Ga., and Jordan Tippie of Phenix City, Ala.; four sisters-in-law, Clare Ruth (Louie) Mountain of Bridgeport, Ala., Audrey Messer of Seymour, Tn., Doris (Charles) Devine of Rossville, Ga., Barbara Gibson of Georgetown, Tn.; several nieces and nephews here and in the UK; and special friend, Millie Brown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, March 28.
The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Dotson and the Rev. Tom Resue officiating.
The interment service will be in Henagar Community Cemetery, Henagar, Ala., at 11 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, March 29, with family members serving as pallbearers.
