Gwen Ifill will speak in Chattanooga at WTCI’s 2011 Be More Awards ceremony on Wednesday, March 9, at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
Ms. Ifill is managing editor and moderator for Washington Week, and senior correspondent for the PBS Newshour.
The Be More Awards ceremony/luncheon will honor local nonprofits and local winners will be announced. The purpose of the event is to celebrate local nonprofits working to help the community broaden horizons, explore new ideas and realize potential.
The event will take place at the Chattanooga Convention Center on Wednesday. There will be a VIP meet-and-greet at 10:30, with the program following from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Ms. Ifill has covered six presidential campaigns and moderated two vice presidential debates, in 2004, the debate between Republican Dick Cheney and Democrat John Edwards, and in 2008 the debate between Democratic Senator Joe Biden and Republican Governor Sarah Palin.
She is also the best-selling author of The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama (Doubleday, 2009).
The awards, which are part of a national program for PBS stations, recognize excellence in the local nonprofit community, bringing accolades to those who share WTCI’s commitment to offer everyone opportunities to “be more.”
