Family members said little Chase Zion Glasgow "was carried to the arms of Jesus by his loving aunt."
Chase, who was only three months old, died in the arms of his aunt, Tammi Lynn Glasgow, during the tornado that struck south Bradley County on Wednesday. The aunt died also.
Joshua Hood, youth pastor of the Living Word Church, said Ms. Glasgow is from Michigan and is the caregiver for her ill son. She came to Tennessee "to take a short break" from that duty.
He said the aunt and infant were upstairs in the two-story Glasgow home of Mike and Kayci Glasgow on Blue Springs Road. He said the Glasgow couple were downstairs with their other children when the storm approached. He said Mr. Glasgow raced upstairs as the tornado got close.
The Glasgow couple both had serious injuries, but they are recovering. The other children had some injuries as well.
Chase is survived by his parents and three sisters, Symphony Joy Glasgow, Tsavo Hope Glasgow and Shiloh Phoenix Glasgow as well as his paternal grandparents, Sandra and James Monday; maternal grandparents, Brian and Sharon Beeson; aunts, Daeni Belling and Kamie Beeson, and cousins, Austin Belling, Steven Belling and James Jordan.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Living Word Church with Pastor Larry Cockerham officiating. A private interment at Mt. Olive Cemetery will be held by the family.
Grissom Funeral Home in Cleveland has charge of the arrangements.
The Glasgow family, in addition to losing the two family members, also lost most of their possessions. The Living Word Church has set up a relief fund for the family. To donate, visit www.thelovingchurch.com or donate by mail: 930 25th St., Cleveland, Tn., 37311.
