Townsend Atelier will be a part of the New Dischord Festival 2011 and the June Southside ArtStroll.
The gallery will host an open house with refreshments and music on Friday, June 24, 6-7:30 p.m. It will be open to the public and free of charge.
The New Dischord Festival is an attempt to bring together the art and music communities of Chattanooga into one weekend of colorful and dynamic combinations. Over the weekend of June 24-26, musicians from the group New Dischord will team up with local artists on Main Street to present several performances in warehouse and gallery shows across SouthSide.
The sounds will range from Electronic music to experimental-Classical to Jazz and Indie-Rock. Local artists and dancers will collaborate with the musicians to create multimedia experiences that provoke thought and conversation.
New Dischord is a collective of local musicians who play music that defies classification. Headed up by local composer, Tim Hinck, New Dischord includes classically-trained musicians who are music teachers and symphony players, but they all share a passion for bringing new and experimental music to a broad audience.
May galleries, studios and Southside businesses will be open with extended hours and special events on the last Friday of each month through September for the Southside ArtStroll.
