Southern Belle Riverboat Gets Chattanooga Ownership

  • Thursday, June 2, 2011

The Southern Belle Riverboat, a Chattanooga fixture since June 1985, now has local ownership.

Joy Reinert, general manager of the riverboat operation for the past four years, has acquired the attraction along with her husband, Joe Reinert.

Ms. Reinert went to work on the Southern Belle in March 1986.

She said no changes are planned in its operation, saying it is doing well.

The riverboat was originally owned by Capt. Robert Lumpp. It was sold in 1988 to John Goldfine of Duluth, Minn., who sold it to the Reinherts.

The purchase includes Pier 2, a three-story former casino boat that was permanently docked at Ross's Landing in 2006.

The boat serves as Southern Belle's office space, rental facility and gift shop.
